Director's Message

Welcome to the MacKay Centre for Seniors

Greetings and update from Chair of Board of Directors

This 2024 year has been a roaring success for the MacKay Centre for Seniors. Not only did we complete our Strategic Plan to guide us into the future, but we also increased our membership to over 475 active members! None of this would be possible without the direction of our Executive Director, Stephanie Hartwick, employees, volunteers, amazing support from the Town of Goderich and enthusiastic members. The newly structured Board of Directors has already begun to implement portions of the plan by initiating outreach programs into areas of need outside of the Goderich area into rural areas where senior residents experience difficult challenges. Meals and senior programming will be provided through these outreach programs using the MacKay Centre’s 44 years of experience to service areas designated as Food Deserts where there are no grocery outlets nearby.
Not that we want to brag, but, we are fortunate to have recently reintroduced the bi-monthly meals program that is currently providing meals to seniors and ensuring companionship along with serving healthy, nutritious meals to over 50 members per sitting. We have also expanded our programming to include line dancing, drumming, games day, men’s coffee and chat, evening yoga, coffee for caregivers, needle work group, lots of workshop series and regular Parkinson’s meetings. As we continue to grow with our membership, outreach programs and collaboration with outside agencies, kindness and tolerance of the many challenges that accompany this growth must be kept in mind. The Code of Conduct introduced through the Strategic Plan intends to ensure we make our growing seniors members in 2025 and beyond a positive experience for all. Best wishes in 2025 and thank you for your continued enthusiasm and support.
